Theme Thursday - Eyes
Getting the kids to look at the camera while I take their picture is such a challenge. I try to think of new ways to get their attention. I have called their names, told them to look at mama and even used toys. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes I get these looks:
Most of the time I try to incorporate myself into their line of sight and take a shot where I know they would be looking at me:
However, the littest is the hardest to photo. She refuses to cooperate no matter what I do. So I usually get side views of her. However, this shot in particular stood out to me cause I love that you can see the camp fire reflecting from her eyes.
If anyone has any tricks of the trade to get them to look at me, please feel free to share!

You have some great eye contact here! Sometimes I get them to cooperate for pictures if I let them take a picture of me...then it's their turn. ;) Of course I'm saying "be careful, careful now, CAREFUL" the whole time!
Sometimes I think surprising them is the best form of eye contact too. I love that second shot with her face partially hidden. She's got a bit of a sparkle in her too. Great shot. :)
And your b/w is awesome! What a whoop of delight you can almost hear him.
I have not tricks to share. My kids literally run away from me most of the time when they see my camera. All of your shots look great.
My kids are just hams. As soon as I pull out the camera they start preening. Sorry!
You did manage to get some great shots, though, so you must be doing something right!
I don't know that you need any tricks - I think all of these are fantastic! I love the little guy's expression in the first one and the peeking out 2nd one is beautiful! And to capture the campfire, too? Perfect!!
I don't think you need to have them look at you all the time. But the second shot is my fave. I love just the one eye.
Wow! the second shot is my favorite...with one eye peeking out. I really enjoyed your shots...great eye contact!
I so feel ya and am eager to read the other's comments. One thing I read to do (but hasn't worked for ME) is to bribe them with a toy by your camera.
Doesn't that just sound easy? Ha. Riiiight.
And the shots? FAB!
Oh these are wonderful! I think that perhaps it is you that should be handing out the tips!
I am also with Stacy -- sometimes I have good luck with the 'taking turns taking pictures' method, although having them near my camera does make me awfully nervous! The rule for now is that the big camera has to stay on the counter/couch/whatever and they just get to push the button. Or we use the timer and then all run over -- which has actually turned out surprisingly well!
Wonderful shots! My favorite is the second one. I don't know any other tricks, I'm looking to your commenter's for some!
BTW - love the new header!!
Just noticed your new header... great shot of the kids! Looks like you succeeded in getting them to look at you! The 2nd shot in this series is really beautiful as are the others.
Love the new header! I have no clue how to get them to look at the camera. I'm bumfuzzled in that department. I just wish I could get ONE decent shot.
love the new header!
Oh I used to snort like a pig. She'd look and laugh....but...she is so over it by now.
oh and I used to gasp. that worked well.
I heard somewhere once, to tell them that there's a bug on the lens, and ask them if they can see it....not sure if it works! LOL Anyway, I love your shots...such beautiful eyes and love the reflections!
i have so much trouble getting my 20 month old to look at the camera!! We were outside tonight with the camera and he was just running away from me 90% of the time! Can't wait until bribery is an option! :)
Gorgeous shots...I love that campfire reflection too
Wow! Beautiful children with peepers that just suck you in. Lovely shots!
I love the secodn one of your daughter. It is like she is being kinda shy. Very cute!
